Professional Dental Cleanings
Avalon Family Dentistry offers high-quality dental cleanings. For optimal dental health, make sure to see us for your preventative care at the recommended interval that we have deemed best for you (every three, four, or six months).
Why Have I Been Told My Professional Cleaning Will Take More Than One Appointment?
If you have been seeing a dentist regularly for preventive recare, your periodontal (gum) health is usually stable. Your professional cleaning (preventive care) can be thoroughly completed within an hour.
If it has been a while since you have been seen, or if you have a genetic predisposition to the bacteria that cause periodontal (gum) disease, we have to take a more assertive approach to regain the health of your gums. This can often be accomplished with non-surgical periodontal therapy (root planing and scaling or deep cleanings). NSPT (nonsurgical periodontal therapy) requires anywhere from 2 to 4 appointments, of a 1-to-2-hour duration for each. Our hygienists will work closely with you to educate and empower you to better gum health.
Our thorough exam will allow us to determine exactly what your gums need for best health.
How Does Professional Dental Cleaning Promote Good Oral Health?
Although daily brushing and flossing are essential for maintaining good oral health, it's impossible to remove all the debris and plaque from your mouth on your own. That's where dental preventive recare comes in.
With a special dental tool called a scaler, our trained dentists carefully and methodically remove buildup. Before they even use a scaler, our amazing hygienists use an ultrasonic scaler to remove stains, plaque, and bacteria from the periodontal pockets. Then they polish your teeth and remove any last bits of superficial surface stains.
