Don’t Forget About Your FSA

Last month, our blog reminded you about open enrollment for 2023, when your employer had you re-choose your benefits. Just as importantly, however, is THIS year’s FSA (Flexible Spending Account) for those of you blessed to have this benefit,

This is a truly fantastic benefit that more and more employers are offering to their employees. It allows you, as the employee, to put money aside from each paycheck into an account to be used for out-of-pocket medical expenses. This is amazing because it comes out of your paycheck PRE-tax, so it will lower your taxable income!

However, Flexible Spending Accounts have a couple of challenges that you must keep in mind. Firstly, the amount you set aside each year must be decided upon the year prior! If you are like most people, you’ll set aside more money than you can possibly use.

The second challenge is that the money placed into the account MUST be used fully each year. It’s a “use it or lose it” benefit. You only have until December to utilize what you have set aside.

Why do we bring this up? Well, hop onto Avalon Family Dentistry’s Facebook or Instagram page and look up Dr. Hannah’s post from Sep. 9, 2022 to see. While you are at it, if you have not liked and followed us yet, please do that too!! Has Dr. Hannah or Dr. Lee shown you a tooth that they are concerned about? Have they shown you crack lines in your molar and mentioned you should plan for a crown?

Your FSA for this year allows you to be PROACTIVE instead of reactive. We know that no one likes coming to the dentist for treatment, but it is so much better and less expensive to complete treatment BEFORE things begin causing pain.

If you truly want to be proactive with your FSA, Dr. Hannah and Dr. Lee would be happy to provide a quick consultation for existing patients to see if there are areas of concern.

Another area of treatment that many people downplay or think may not be attainable is your smile! Did you know that Dr. Hannah is a certified Invisalign provider? Did you know your FSA can be used for any out-of-pocket expense for Invisalign? If this is something you have thought about, give Cristi a call at the office (253-941-6365) to schedule your complimentary Invisalign consultation! You could be well on your way to achieving your smile dreams before Christmas!

November and December may seem like they are a long way away, but they are not! NOW is the time to get scheduled for that treatment you have put off and to use your FSA!!! The last few months get busy quickly, and we want to make sure you get everything you want to be accomplished before our annual vacation between Christmas and New Year’s!
