Are Whitening Strips Bad for My Teeth?

Spring is officially in the air! There is no better way to embrace the sunshine, longer days, and outdoor festivities than with a bright, white smile!

However, in the middle of that happy thought, you realize your smile is not as bright as your enthusiasm. And didn’t you read somewhere that whitening is harmful to your teeth, not to mention out of your budget?

Let’s set your mind at ease.

Today, the team at Avalon Family Dentistry will address both common misconceptions.

Will whitening damage my teeth?

The most important thing to remember is whether you’re dealing with a reputable office, not just for whitening but all dental procedures. If you purchase your whitening from your trusted dentist, like Dr. Hannah and Dr. Lee, you can rest assured that only products tested by the ADA (American Dental Association) are being utilized!

Consumers in the United States should be cautious! To this day, things like teeth whitening fall under the “cosmetics” category with the FDA (Federal Drug Administration). This means there is very little oversight and regulations. You could get a product that does nothing at all. Worse, you could get a product that causes your mouth harm. The products you find through online advertisements or on Amazon fall under the above category.

The team at Avalon Family Dentistry has done its due diligence, and we have exacting standards when it comes to the care of our patients.

We have an amazing “At Home” whitening system that is safe and almost ten times more effective than Crest White Strips, which so many have tried. The GoTray system from our office includes a full ten treatments that you only have to wear for 15-20 minutes every day to every other day. The team loves this because it gives complete control to the patient!

During the whitening process, it can be common to experience temperature sensitivity and sometimes even “achiness” in the teeth. This is normal for many people because when the whitening trays are in place, it keeps your saliva away from your teeth. This causes them to “dehydrate.” This minor dehydration will persist until your saliva fills the dentinal tubules again. No damage is done.

Whitening is too expensive!

This statement could not be further from the truth! The team at Avalon Family Dentistry has worked incredibly hard to find an affordable whitening treatment for our patients! The GoTrays is a ten-tray treatment designed to be worn each night or every other night. The treatment is ONLY $75. Crest White Strips are between $40 and $ 50; remember, they are much less effective.

Give Tanya a call to let her know you will be stopping by to pick up your own set of GoTrays, be the first one ready for warmer weather, and gather enthusiastically with friends!
